Kastelorizo Wedding
June 17, 2015
One of a kind…
The island of Kastelorizo has always been to me the furthermost corner my own country. I always believed I would travel there when life itself would allow it. And as it is, more often than not, life brings surprises.
So here I am travelling to Kastelorizo in the springtime… because of a love story, taking in the beauty of this faraway and particular place, that to so many of us Greeks inspires respect for our history and what greekness is about.
Kastelorizo is not only about those amazing colours or the quiet, relaxed and familiar atmosphere of the island. It is also about this sensation of being in such a distant place, of being at the edge. So close to Turkey and yet so far away from the rest of the country.
I walked a lot. I climbed high up to see the view; I wandered through the narrow backstreets in the heat of the day when all goes quiet. I discovered a place with an amazing beauty and history.
Javier and Julie are an adorable couple, always with a smile. They wanted a relaxed and intimate wedding for a select few: close friends and family. They hired Gulets, traditional Turkish two or three-mast wooden sailing vessels, to bring their friends from Turkey over to the island.
It was a colourful wedding: turquoise blue waters, emerald green surrounding nature and brightly coloured local houses were all in perfect harmony, topped with the white elegance of the couple to be wed.
The The Twelve Events team, in collaboration with the Eventions Team, created a most magical atmosphere in the central square of the port: an evening for the locals to celebrate together with the couple. It was a day filled with laughter and love, a day that bred unique memories…
